TWINKLE

Here's one of my favourite books, I feel it inadvertantly inspires the way I draw faces since it's something I ALWAYS refer too. I can definately see that my final version of Jack is a representation of this inspiration.

HANNAH-BARBARA

Hannah-Barbara Cartoons, Inc, are responsible for a lot of my old favourite cartoons from childhood, and potentially my mums too! From 1957 they've produced the Flintstones, Tom & Jerry, Scoobie Doo, Josie & The Pussycats and the Jetsons.

LOVE IT! These are what has been a big inspiration for my Illustration brief for the mental illness charity.

"GO AHEAD, MAKE MY DAY!"

Photobucket
These are a few of my fave transformers comics, from my big brother's collection. They're from 1989-90 so Steve would have been about 7. Is there stuff like this for 7 year olds now? I dunno. I mean stuff - as good as this that you can just buy from a corner shop - because this is all neat-o!. There doesn't seem to be as much hand drawn, printed stuff like this anyway but i don't tend to look!

I've never seen a kid in a comic bookshop, ever! Honestly. Who has? In forbidden planet or wherever... it tends to be guys about of about 24 or the odd looking girls with funny hair usually. Target audiences are never clear when it comes to comic books. You can be flicking through something that looks like these Transformer comics here and then suddenly see a woman with her knockers out or something that's clearly not for kids. Comics aren't for kids anymore...

PICA PICA

Here's a beeeautiful book of birds I found in the Vernon street library. It's got gorgeous illustrations, they're so bright and realistic. I love them. I could never illustrate like this but it's certainly taught me how to draw a magpie properly.

DIMITIRI STANKOWICS

This is by DIMITIRI STANKOWICS. Amazing. I can't get enough. Really reminiscent of 60's style Disney animation that I'm reeeal fond of.

Efterklang

This video for Efterklang song Mirador was animated by Jens Christian Høgni Larsen & Nan Na Hvass.

I especially like the impossible staircase part at about 2:30. Here's some more work by Nan Na Hvass ...OH i've just realised they've got some work in the new YCN book...

Janine Rewell

This is a piece of Janine Rewell called Dolls house. I love it - it's a really good example of how to photograph and make miniatures well!

Anyway, she's good is Janine....

Andrew Holder

When researching illustration for animation, i came across Andrew Holder...
I love his style, the colours are beautiful. Like Eyvind Earl I may create backgrounds and layer the animation on top, this will be simpler than creating a whole new page for a new frame... and obviously less time consuming!

I think I use this idea for photographing books...I like it.

ENYVIND-A JAYA JAYA

Eyvind Earl was an american illustrator, writer & fine artist. He may be best known for the background illustration for disney in the 1950's. He worked on animations like Toot, whilstle, plunk & boom - an animation about the evolution of instruments...

(this is brilliant. watch out for the fat horses)

Earl was also responsible for the background in Sleeping beauty and worked on Lady & the Tramp & Peter Pan.
